First published in 2012, it was later adapted into a manga in 2013, just in the length of a year. It only took the series three years to be picked up by A-1 Pictures for anime adaptation. Season one of The Asterisk War aired on October 3, 2015, in Japan, listed with 12 episodes. A hit among old and new fans, it got renewed for another season. The second season of the series premiered a year later, also listed with 12 episodes.

Five years since then, fans are still eager to see the continuation of the series. So, when will we get the third installment? Here is everything we know about the potential of The Asterisk War Season 3.

Will there be The Asterisk War Season 3?

The Asterisk War Season 3

There is no news about the series being canceled, so we assume that The Asterisk War Season 3 is on pending status. It is not a new thing because there is many anime that have the same case these days. Remember, producing anime takes a long time to do.

There is no concern about the lack of material too. So far, there are 15 volumes published between 2012 and 2019. The latest volume is scheduled to be released on November 25, 2021. There is also three volumes of spin-off light novel, therefore plenty of content to be covered for The Asterisk War Season 3.

In addition, to make all hope alive, Netflix picked the series into their platform. This could be a sign that the idea of The Asterisk War Season 3 is not entirely abandoned. In recent years, Netflix has been going serious with anime audiences and only adds promising anime titles. So if in the worst case, A-1 Pictures (Sword Art Online, Kaguya-samaBlue ExorcistInterviews with Monster GirlsGateThe Asterisk War & 86 Season 2) decides to throw the project, Netflix could be the one that gives the series renewal.

The Asterisk War Season 3 Release Date

Just like we said before, the show is not canceled yet. Sadly, there is also no official announcement about the release date of The Asterisk War Season 3. A-1 Pictures, the studio that produced the first and second seasons, has a busy schedule. This year only, they have plenty of series that they work on, such as Sword Art Online, 86, and Kaguya-sama.

There is also a concern about the sales of the source material and the reception of anime adaption. One source said that the sales had declined recently after volume 16 was published. The same source also mentioned the poor reception of the last anime season.

The Asterisk War Season 3 might come in 2023 but keep your expectations low.

In the previous century, an unprecedented disaster known as the Invertia drastically reformed the world.
