Seraph of the end, known as Owari no Serafu in Japanese, is a dark fantasy manga. Written by Takaya Kagami with illustrations by Yamato Yamamoto and storyboards created by Daisuke Furuya. It was published in Jump SQ and for English, Weekly Shonen Jump. Fans, including me, were thrilled by the anime adaptation. After two great seasons, fans are now waiting for Seraph of the End season 3.
The first season of the anime, Seraph of the End: Vampire Reign, was released on April 4, 2015 and consisted of 12 episodes. The second season, Seraph of the End: Battle in Nagoya, was released shortly after the end of the first, on October 10, 2015, with 12 episodes. Both seasons scored quite well. A few spin-off episodes were also made. The anime is derived from the manga, which began serialization on September 3, 2012.
A finished light novels series, which is a prequel to the manga and anime, was also created. It was published from January 2013 to December 2016. It was written and illustrated by the same people as the manga and consists of 7 volumes. A manga adapting this series began to be published in series on June 6, 2017. Perhaps we will even get an animated version of this prequel story.
Other prequel light novels have been created based on this successful manga series. Two Japanese video games have also been released. You can check them all out, but that’s not why we are here. We are here to find out what is going on with Seraph of the End season 3.
The first two seasons of Seraph of the End
We are in a post-apocalyptic world where a mysterious virus is killing everyone over the age of 13. Hidden vampires emerge to take over, with a promise to protect them. The story follows two young survivors, Yuuichirou and Mikaela. They try to survive with their fellow orphans as livestock for the vampires.
You probably already know the whole story if you are reading this article. If you don’t and are wondering if this is an ongoing anime, I wouldn’t want to spoil anything for you. There is much more to come from this story, as it is deep and fascinating. The first episode is a great hook that makes you want to know what happens next.
You can tell that this is a typical supernatural shounen anime that follows a young man who becomes stronger and seeks revenge. There are great battles and friendship between the characters. The first season leaves us with a cliffhanger which, thankfully, was quickly picked up by the second season. Now we have the cliffhanger at the end of season 2, but where is Seraph of the End Season 3?
Seraph of the End Season 3 Release Date?
The first two seasons were adapted by Wit Studio (Attack on Titan, Great Pretender, & Vinland Saga) and licensed by Funimation. The anime was released a little too early because the manga was not yet very advanced. The author of the manga, Takaya Kagami, personally wrote the story of the episodes that had not yet been made in the manga. If they had waited a little longer for the first two seasons of the anime, maybe we wouldn’t wait so long for the third season.
Animation studios always have a hard time continuing an older anime, but we are seeing an increase in the number of older anime getting new seasons. They need to make money with the anime and the manga is selling very well. So there should be no problem for the studio to do a new season. However, Wit Studio has been very busy with Attack on Titan and wants to make its own original anime.
For now, there is no confirmation about the Seraph of the End Season 3. The release of the anime was of course part of the goal to help the manga sell. They left it hanging, which made fans like me read the manga, but even then we had to wait for the manga to get this far. When you’re so invested in these characters and their stories, the wait is terrible.
Seraph of the End Season 3: Is there enough source material?
It’s been a little over 4 years since the end of season 2. The manga has come a long way since then and currently has 20 volumes. Chapters are released every month and the last chapter is 87. With only minor differences between the manga and the anime, the anime contains 41 chapters. We are now at the point where the chapters are twice as many and we can consider a Seraph of the End Season 3.
However, we don’t know how many chapters they want for the next season. Do they want to divide it again into a season 3 and 4 or a season of 24 episodes? The first season ends at chapter 25, while the second season includes the remaining 16 chapters. The number of chapters used for a season varies.
Seraph of the End Season 3: What will be the plot?
You can read the manga to see how the plot continues or wait patiently for another season. As long as the manga continues to be popular, we should see another season. The second season did its best to end it at a good point, without showing everything the manga did. The manga is a roller coaster ride that never slows down.
Without spoilers, the survival action continues in Seraph of the End Season 3. The gang is just trying to survive. It’s an all-out war going on in this post-apocalyptic dark fantasy world. The vampires are still trying to take control of their food source, the humans. We will see even more powerful vampires in the next season. All the weapons wielded by the main human characters contain demons. Seraph of the End Season 3 explores them further.
The last episode was changed when it was released. It’s not uncommon for anime to deviate from its source material. How they will continue from this change is a mystery. Read the manga from chapter 41 on to see for yourself. The manga is really great and I’m still looking forward to reading each chapter and hopefully seeing it animated as well.

Yuuichirou Hyakuya: Our main protagonist and a member of the Demon Moon squad of the Japanese Imperial Demon Army. His demonic weapon is a sword. He was abandoned in an orphanage and had to face many things. All he wanted was revenge, but in season 3, all he wants is to protect his friends.
Mikaela Hyakuya: Having grown up in the same orphanage, he also has to deal with a lot. He doesn’t escape from vampires like his best friend Yuuichirou. He turns into a vampire and starts to lose his humanity. The only thing that matters to him is to save Yuuichirou.
Guren Ichinose: The main protagonist of the light novels and an important part of the plot. He is the lieutenant colonel of the Japanese Imperial Demon Army. His team of close friends is also involved in the plot of Seraph of the End Season 3.
Shinoa Hiiragi: leader of the moon demon squad. She wields a scythe as a weapon and has a complicated family history in Seraph of the End Season 3.
Yoichi Saotome: A member of the moon demon squad and wields a bow. He wants to avenge his sister’s death by killing the vampires.
Shihou Kimizuki: A member of the moon demon squad and wields two swords. At the end of season 2, they couldn’t save his sister, Mirai, who became a weapon. They vow to return and save her when they can.
Mitsuba Sanguu: A member of the moon demon squad and wielding a huge axe.
Krul Tepes: The queen of the vampires of Japan. She is the third progenitor and is responsible for the transformation of Mikaela into a vampire. She despises humans, but treats Mikaela well.
Ferid Bathory: The vampire who killed the family of Yuuichrou. He is very talkative and unpredictable. Everybody hates him. We will know more about him in Seraph of the End Season 3, when he comes back.

Upon their reunion, however, he discovers that Mikaela has been turned into a vampire. Determined to help his friend, Yuuichirou vows to get stronger so that he can protect Mikaela as well as the comrades in the Moon Demon Company.
Kureto Hiiragi receives information that a large group of vampires will be gathering in Nagoya, preparing for their assault on the Imperial Demon Army’s main forces in Tokyo. Led by Guren Ichinose, Yuuichirou’s team is one of many selected to intercept and eliminate the vampire nobles.
With the Nagoya mission quickly approaching, the members of Shinoa squad continue to work towards fully mastering their weapons, while learning how to improve their teamwork. Yuuichirou must gain the power he needs to slay the nobles and save his best friend, before he succumbs to the demon of the Cursed Gear.
In the end, we haven’t discovered anything about Seraph of the End season 3. We know that there is enough source material and it’s only a matter of time. The Wit Studio might or might not give us the next season as well.
