Rilakkuma and Kaoru is a 2019 stop-motion animation series created by Dwarf Studio in cooperation with San-X that premiered in Netflix on April 2019. The series that only aired for 11 minutes per episode managed to attract attention with its first season, making the viewers wonder if there will ever be Rilakkuma and Kaoru Season 2.

The series combines Kaoru’s story, with beautiful life lessons. The anime attracts viewers regardless of their age and generation. It has been almost 2 years since fans last saw the series, and now they are desperately demanding for its sequel. Rilakkuma and Kaoru is a slice-of-life stop-motion anime series. Created by Aki Kondo and directed by Masahito Kobayashi, the anime made its debut on the international streaming platform on April 2019 and ran for thirteen episodes.

The story of this stop-motion anime series follows a hard-working woman and a lazy bear. Rilakkuma is the complete opposite of Kaoru and prefers to laze around all day. However, this is not presented in a negative way. It is shown that some rest is necessary and beneficial to the soul and body. The fans saw how Kaoru struggles with having a stroke of continuous bad luck and how she was helped out by her pet and other stuffed bear named Korilakkuma. She was also being accompanied by a hardworking, meticulous dick named Kiiroitori. The entire season highlights the bittersweet time Kaoru had with Rilakkuma, as they are forming a relationship with each other.

The show is made for those who live life to the fullest every day, trying to work hard, and not letting things get them down. It focuses on the bittersweet time that Kaoru spends with Rilakkuma. What stands out about the show is the comment on Japanese culture and in face the commentary on the global culture under the current exploitative capitalist systems.

It is no secret that these days, workers are objectified as a tool, and the product is reified into whatever the society will buy. Not only does this bring a degree of alienation into the work, but also forces workers to go above and beyond to remain in the competitive market.

As a result, a lot of people burned out quickly, having breakdowns, and developing health issues, mentally or physically. Kaoru faces a similar problem as she works very hard at the office. It is the same everywhere, not just Japan. We all need someone like Rilakkuma to remind us that an occasional break is good and will help us to stay productive in the longer run.

Rilakkuma and Kaoru Season 1 sure have received a lot of love from kids to adults. The anime did really well with its first run and its cute appeal is just admirable for everyone. This made the viewers think that the first season ended so quickly and now they are demanding for its second season.

If you are subscribed to Netflix for some time and you have been watching anime for a long time, you should know that Netflix doesn’t own many series. In recent years, Netflix has been investing its time and money into anime and Rilakkuma and Kaoru is one of them.

Now, The real question is, when will Rilakkuma and Kaoru Season 2 released?

Sadly, neither Netflix or Dwarf Studio have said anything about the continuation of the show. The show has surely ended in season one, but there is no official confirmation whether if Rilakkuma and Kaoru has really ended on the first season or not. The show, however, is also haven’t been renewed for its season 2.

But there are possibilities that Rilakkuma and Kaoru Season 2 will happen. Netflix has always shown interest in anime and they might renew this series.
