Concerns about One Punch Man Season 3 adaptation

Just recently we reported that a third season of the popular superhero anime “One Punch Man” is in the works. Actually, a joyful news for the fans of the franchise – one would think. But instead, people are already showing concern about the animation.

With the first season from 2015, Studio MADHOUSE set new standards in animation quality at the time and thrilled fans worldwide. However, the shoes were obviously too big for the studio J.C.Staff, which was responsible for the second season in 2019. The very clear step back in quality was heavily criticized by fans.

In addition, fans are wondering which template will be adapted. Because originally “One Punch Man” started in 2009 as a webcomic by author ONE and thrilled his fans. Among them was the successful mangaka Yusuke Murata, who offered himself without further ado for a manga adaptation. ONE agreed, and the two have been publishing the popular manga series since 2012.

But the two versions have differences in plot and character development. Die-hard fans prefer ONE’s webcomic version because of this, especially in the course of the “Garou arc,” which was not well received by fans in the manga and which the upcoming third season will likely adapt.

We’ve summarized some of the comments for you below:

  • “They’re really making a sequel after that disastrous second season?”
  • “To be honest, I don’t have high expectations since the second season, where the studio changed and the animation quality dropped.”
  • “I would love to see a third season, but the second season disappointed me beyond belief. I don’t have high expectations.”
  • “I think Murata’s version will be a disaster.”
  • “How will the anime handle the Garou arc? Personally, I’d like to see the webcomic version adapted.”

The first two seasons are available on DVD and Blu-ray with English and Japanese voiceovers. The streaming service Crunchyroll offers them in the original Japanese audio with subtitles as well as the English dubbed version on demand.
