Netflix has increasingly relied on anime in recent years. In addition to purchased series, this also applies to commissioned and in-house productions. In order to offer employees a good working environment, the streaming service has opened the Anime Creators’ Base in the Tokyo office.
Anime Creators Center
The company recently released a video that shows a tour of the premises. You can check this out later in this article. The narrator is Netflix VTuber N-Ko in cooperation with Taiki Sakurai, Netflix’s main anime producer, who was also responsible for the construction of the center and the conceptual design.
Sakurai got the inspiration for the implementation of the center from the comedy anime “Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!” (jap.: “Eizouken ni wa Te wo Dasu na!”), in which three high school students found an animation club. “When I saw the series, I was immediately fascinated by the idea of creating a space where creative minds could come together.”
The new centre comprises three main areas. The first section is primarily intended for story and script writers as well as anime producers. In the second area, concept illustrators will pursue their work, while the third area includes a laboratory for testing new technologies such as VR and motion capture.
According to Sakurai, the center is primarily intended to unite all the people necessary for the creative creation process of anime under one roof and to offer them a good working atmosphere. In the video you also get an impression of the general structure of the Netflix office.
