Japanese animation studio Madhouse announced that they are currently working on a new original anime in the form of a movie, titled “Goodbye, DonGlees!”, which is expected to be released in Japanese theaters next year.
New Anime by Atsuko Ishizuka
“Goodbye, DonGlees!” is being directed by Atsuko Ishizuka, who previously held that position on “A Place Further Than the Universe” and “No Game No Life” and also had the idea for the new film project. Takahiro Yoshimatsu (“Hunter × Hunter”) is involved as a character designer, while the publisher KADOKAWA (‘Overlord Season 4‘) is involved as a producer.
The evening filler is the first original film by Atsuko Ishizuka. The director, who is also writing the screenplay, explained that after “reaching Antarctica,” she opened a map and looked for the opposite extreme, indicating Iceland: “Far to the west of Eurasia lies an isolated island marking the expanse of the Atlantic.”
The story is said to be about miraculous encounters between boys. As with “A Place Further Than the Universe,” the setting of the film, which is meant to change one’s way of life, will not be limited to Japan. You can check out a first visual below.
“A Place Further Than the Universe,” originally titled “Sora yori mo Tooi Basho,” aired in Japan between January and March 2018.
