Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2: Success with the announcement

During the “Jujutsu Kaisen” panel, the key figures of the anime adaptation, namely Manabu Otsuka (CEO of Studio MAPPA), Hiroshi Seko (screenwriter) and Hiroaki Matsutani (TOHO producer), answered questions from the audience.

At the beginning, each of those present explained their respective roles in the anime’s production. While Ohtsuka describes himself as the one who puts all the talent and other puzzle pieces together into a finished product, Seko creates a script from the manga and Matsutani, along with the production committee, drives the production of the anime.

It was then asked what was important in adapting the manga. To this, Seko replied that images and text would convey meaning, and that sound, the music, and other considerations also play a role in animation. All the things that can’t be conveyed with text alone in the same way, they would have to think about additionally in animation.

From a marketing standpoint, Matsutani added that he would think day in and day out about how MAPPA could successfully market an anime. Otsuka explained that the whole team knew from the beginning that “Jujutsu Kaisen” would be a hit and the next “Demon Slayer.” However, they didn’t have to do that much to make it happen, since the title became so successful all by itself.
