Grimoire of Zero (Zero kara Hajimeru Mahou no Sho) is an anime adaptation of the light novel with the same name. The light novel itself is written by Kakeru Kobashiri and illustrated by Yoshinori Shizuma. It is a fantasy anime where magic is involved. If you like this kind of genre, you might not want to miss the show.
The anime series first aired on April 10, 2017, and is listed with 12 episodes. Tetsuo Hirakawa directs it, while Ryosuke Kimiya and Daisuke Mataga provide the character designs. The casts include Yumiri Hanamori (Kaguya-sama, Mieruko-chan), Tsuyoshi Koyama (Sword Art Online, UchiMusume), You Taichi (Azur Lane, Kageki Shoujo), and Takehito Koyasu (Attack on Titan, Re:ZERO). Tapimiru performs the opening theme, while Chima provides the ending them.
As any fans of other lights novels, one season is probably not enough to satisfy them. So, some news about the renewal will be welcomed. Here is our breakdown about the possibility of the Grimoire of Zero Season 2.
Will there be a Grimoire of Zero Season 2?
Sadly, it’s been years since it aired, and we still don’t have any official announcement about the indication of Grimoire of Zero season 2. But, there are possibilities.
First, we look at the source of the anime. From the information that we gather around the internet, Grimoire of Zero still has plenty of materials for the second season’s production. There are 11 released light novels by the author. While the novel itself has ended, the first season of Grimoire of Zero only adapts the novel’s first volume. So, there is enough content for Grimoire of Zero season 2.
Second, the ending of the first season. If we look at episode 12, we are certainly sure it is not a completely original ending. It has an open end and it will be easy for the studio to pick up where it left for the Grimoire of Zero season 2.
Third, we can look at the studio behind Grimoire of Zero. White Fox produces the anime adaption. In addition, it is known to adapt some famous light novels, such as Goblin Slayer, Re: ZERO, Cautious Hero, and The Devil is a Part-Timer! Re: ZERO already got the second season, and Goblin Slayer is confirmed to have the sequel. Finally, the last title also needs your attention.
After eight years since the first season of The Devil is a Part-Timer aired, it’s finally gotten its second season. The light novel itself has a similar situation to the Grimoire of Zero; it has ended. While we cannot confirm that White Fox (Akame Ga Kill, Goblin Slayer, Cautious Hero & Grimoire of Zero) is the one who will produce it, we can hope that Grimoire of Zero could have the same treatment.
What is the story of Grimoire of Zero?
Grimoire of Zero follows the story of a Mercenary who is a Beastfallen, person born with an animal appearance. Mercenary, whose name is unknown in the series, took the appearance of a white tiger.
Beastfallen is feared because of their looks and their superhuman strength. Because of that, Mercenary has a dream to become human so that he can open a tavern.
While being hunted by a witch, he has a fateful encounter with another witch named Zero. Unlike other witches, Zero doesn’t want to hunt Mercenary’s head, which has a high value in the market. Instead, she asks him to escort her as her guard, as she is on a journey to find a grimoire, which can destroy the world. In return, she will make Mercenary into a human. Thus, they begin the journey to find a magical tome.
Grimoire of Zero is set in 526, where witches and their magic are widely known throughout the land.

Grimoire of Zero Action
Grimoire of Zero is a Japanese light novel series written by Kakeru Kobashiri and illustrated by Yoshinori Shizuma. The light novel won the Grand Prize at the 20th annual Dengeki Novel Awards. ASCII Media Works has published it in eleven volumes from February 2014 to December 10, 2017. The series has received a manga adaptation illustrated by Takashi Iwasaki. A spinoff manga series, Zero kara Hajimeru Mahō no Sho Nano! has also been published and illustrated by Yasuoka. An anime television series adaptation by White Fox aired between April 10, 2017 and June 26, 2017.
In a world of constant war between humans and witches, there exist the “beastfallen”—cursed humans born with the appearance and strength of an animal. Their physical prowess and bestial nature cause them to be feared and shunned by both humans and witches. As a result, many beastfallen become sellswords, making their living through hunting witches.
Despite the enmity between the races, a lighthearted witch named Zero enlists a beastfallen whom she refers to as “Mercenary” to act as her protector. He travels with Zero and Albus, a young magician, on their search for the Grimoire of Zero: a powerful spell book that could be extremely dangerous in the wrong hands. During their journey, his inner kindness is revealed as he starts to show compassion and sympathy towards humans and witches alike, and the unlikely companions grow together.
