During a Livestream event for “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners,” it was revealed that producers wanted to remove an extremely popular character from the anime adaptation.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners: Producers didn’t want a loli

The Netflix anime “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners” adapts the successful video game “Cyberpunk 2077” by developer CD Projekt RED. The same company also took on the role of producer for the anime adaptation and thus naturally had the final say in many decisions.

When the responsible studio Trigger created the character designs and submitted them to CD Projekt RED for review, a disagreement is said to have arisen. The developers of the original game called the character design of Rebecca a “loli” and would have been of the opinion that she had nothing to do with Night City or the world of Cyberpunk in general.

Studio Trigger, however, vehemently insisted on her design and was ultimately able to prevail. Nevertheless, it is noticeable that right at the beginning of her introduction in the anime, her coming of age is emphasized and no romance develops either. Also, her voice actors don’t sound childish at all. Perhaps concessions that CD Projekt RED had to make.

In the meantime, however, the producers are also happy with the decision, because both CD Projekt RED and Studio Trigger describe Rebecca as the best female character in the anime adaptation. And that’s despite the fact that her character design is clearly that of a loli.

“Cyberpunk: Edgerunners” consists of ten episodes and can be streamed since September 13, 2022 with English and Japanese voice output on Netflix.
