Satoru Honma, community manager at CD Projekt RED, recently announced during an interview with the Japanese website Famitsu that Netflix’s anime series “Cyberpunk Edgerunners” will not receive a second season.

Cyberpunk Edgerunners was planned as a standalone work

Currently, there are no plans to continue the story of “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners,” as the title was planned as a standalone work. If the anime were to receive a sequel at some point, Honma says it would be “something completely different” and not a second season of “Edgerunners.”

However, Honma would like to continue working with Japanese studios to produce more anime because of the positive feedback. He would personally vouch for an anime adaptation of “The Witcher” at studio MAPPA, but that studio is entirely at capacity.

The ten-part anime series “Cyberpunk Edgerunners,” based on CD Projekt RED’s video game “Cyberpunk 2077,” was directed by Hiroyuki Imaishi (“Promare”) at Studio Trigger and has been available on Netflix with Japanese voiceovers since September 2022.
