Chainsaw Man Anime Release Date and Trailer

Studio MAPPA will be producing a Chainsaw Man anime. Those are some words we’ve been wanting to say for a while. After years of anticipation and a handful of early leaks, Tatsuki Fujimoto’s dark fantasy series is finally being brought to the screen by a very capable animation studio. For Tatsuki Fujimoto, too, it’s a dream come true. In his author comment, he makes clear that MAPPA was his preferred choice.

MAPPA is looking for new animators for Chainsaw Man

Chainsaw Man Anime Release Date

While it’s not uncommon for studios to look for new employees for upcoming projects, while freelancers are mostly required, this time it’s a contract position with the opportunity to become a full-time employee – with all the benefits and a monthly salary. The goal is to promote new talents who will remain in the team for the long term.

Nakayama is only a freelancer for Studio MAPPA, but he works with the producers to train new animators. The job advertisement is intended to give preference to people who will graduate from school in April 2022.

MAPPA is looking for an indefinite number of trainee employees. The prerequisite is that the applicants live in Japan and are able to travel to the new Ogikubo studio where Chainsaw Man is produced. According to Nakayama, after two years, the new animators will be able to produce layouts and animations like in the trailer of “Chainsaw Man”.

The starting salary is 230,543 yen (1,796.48 euros) per month, with a performance-based salary increase annually in July and a bonus in March, depending on how the business is going. Two days a week may be taken off (usually the weekend), as well as all holidays, obon and the end of the year. Parental and condolence leave are also offered.

All social, pension and insurance benefits are covered along with a commuter allowance of up to 30,000 yen and a family allowance. The allowances are usually paid in addition to the monthly salary. The contract is valid for two years, with a probationary period of two months. After this time, the trainee employee can be taken on as a permanent employee.

Such an opportunity is rare in the anime industry, as most studios rely on freelancers or very short-term contracts. Few anime forges like Kyoto Animation, Toei Animation, and Ghibli are known for employing permanent animators.

The anime will be directed by Ryu Nakayama. Hiroshi Seko will be writing the scripts. Kazutaka Sugiyama is designing the characters and Tatsuya Yoshihara is lending his talents to drive the action home. The music will being handled by Kensuke Ushio.

We still don’t have an airdate for Chainsaw Man but if they’re already putting trailers out, I would imagine that it is likely coming this fall. However, with the pandemic still being very alive and well in Japan, a Spring 2022 release wouldn’t surprise me.
