The Quincy have always been a thorn in the side of the Shinigami. They claim to be able to track hollows, but instead of cleaning them, they destroy them. This upsets the natural balance of the world and leaves the Shinigami with no choice but to put an end to the Quincy uprising.

The Quincy were thought to have been wiped out, but it turns out they were just hiding and getting stronger. After Aizen was defeated, they declared war on Soul Society.
