Since the first season of the series wrapped up, fans have been craving information about its sequel, Absolute Duo Season 2. The series was originally a light novel of the same name, written by Takumi Hiiragiboshi and illustrated by Yuu Asaba. The duo began their serialization in 2012, published Media Factory under the MF Bunko J imprint.
Not so long from the first volume, Absolute Duo got a manga adaptation, with art provided by Shinichiro Nariie. It started in Monthly Comic Alive magazine in 2013 and has been compiled in three volumes. The series also got a spin-off manga, titled Absolute Duo Tea Party, a four-panel comedy created by Tor Oiwaka in 2014.
Like other popular light novels, an anime television series adaptation was announced in 2014. It was produced by 8bit (That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime) and broadcasted between January 4 and March 22, 2015, listed with 12 episodes. In addition, Crunchyroll began the anime streaming outside Japan, while Funimation has licensed the anime for the English-dubbed version.
It’s been six years since the conclusion of the first season. Can we get Absolute Duo Season 2? Is it out of reach? Here is everything we know about the possibility of the sequel.
Will there be Absolute Duo Season 2?
We want to say yes to Absolute Duo Season 2, but it could be a no answer. The first reason why it could not happen in the future is the source material. The author ended the series in 2016 with a total of 11 volumes. With that in mind, it could be hard for 8bit to pick the series again unless Hiiragiboshi starts writing the sequel.
While the series has ended, there is actually plenty of content to be covered for Absolute Duo Season 2. From the information that we gathered, the first season only adapted five volumes. Therefore, there are six volumes worth of content for 8bit to make the second season.
Aside from that, there is a piece of bad news for us. Looking through 8bit’s portfolio, the studio has a history of not continuing some series, especially light novel adaptations. The only exceptions are That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime and IS: Infinite Stratos. Both got a second season, spin-off, and special episodes.
The popularity of Absolute Duo is also a bit concerning. Words said that the anime adaption was not commercially successful.
Don’t let your expectation so high for Absolute Duo Season 2.
Absolute Duo Season 2 Release Date
There is no official announcement for the release date of Absolute Duo Season 2. However, it’s not like the series gets cancelled, so there is slight hope.
We can make some possibilities that could happen in the future. First, 8bit renews the series and make it into a movie instead of television series. It’s not an actual season two, but the fans will appreciate seeing Absolute Duo on the screen again. Second, another studio takes over the project.
Let’s pray for the best!
